Join us for our Feminism in the Pub - Women On Strike? - special WRAW Fest 2019.
From Iceland to India, women are taking mass-action and scaling-up their protests. There were millions in Spain, in Argentina, France or in the Philippines taking the streets to stop patriarchy and gender based violence at work, at home and on the streets.
In Australia, the system is rigged for working women: job insecurity, casualisation, workplace based violence and unpaid care work are part of our day-to-day lives. Looking at the momentum happening around the world and the impact of the School Climate Strike around the country... is it time for women to strike?
This Feminism in the Pub night will gather inspiring feminists, unionists and activists to discuss whether an union women’s strike is achievable, what it would look like and how we can make it happen. We are proud to be hosting an incredible panel, including:
Harriet O'Shea Carre, School Climate Strike Organiser
Lara Watson, ACTU Indigenous Officer
Aira Firdaus, National Union of Workers, Farmworkers Organiser
Melba Marginson, Victorian Immigrants and Refugee Women Coalition
Join us as we unpack the challenges and opportunities of organising a national day of action for women's rights in Australia, allowing our panelists to share their own experiences and unique perspectives. You will have plenty of time to ask your questions too! It could be the start of an historical movement, you don't want to miss this.
