Feminism in the Pub: Ripped Off

Guess what? Women are still being ripped off at work.

Nationally, women earn 15.3% less than men.

September 4th has been named the national Equal Pay Day. This is the day that you should turn off your work computer, put down your tools, and leave your office, because it's the day you effectively stop getting paid.

Don't 'celebrate' being ripped off by having a morning tea and eating cupcakes.

Stand up together to take action.

Join us on the 12th of September at 6.30pm for an evening of strategic planning and discussion about what we can do, as activists and unionists, to make equal pay a reality.

(Victorian women are doing slightly better and are only getting ripped off by 13.3%, which is an increase from last year - so our equal pay day is later).

Our panel includes:

1) Lisa Darmanin: the first female Executive President of the ASU, and a passionate advocate for closing the gender pay gap in retirement.

2) Jess Walsh: the Secretary of the Victorian branch of United Voice, whose members are majority women who work in highly feminized industries vulnerable to pay inequity

3) Hutch Hussein: Senior Manager, Refugees, Immigration & Multiculturalism at the Brotherhood of St Laurence, Hutch can speak to the different challenges that make gender pay inequality even worse for migrant women and women of colour. Hutch is also the current State President of Victorian Labor and has held former roles as EMILY’s List National Co-Convener and ministerial adviser to the Victorian Minister for Women's Affairs.

Hosted once more at the Bull and Bear Tavern, there'll be a bar for drinks, and a kitchen for some A+ pub food. Bring along a friend or three - or bring along your whole workplace and show them how serious we are about making sure they all get paid equally.

Accessibility: The Bull and Bear Tavern is accessible to wheelchair users and those with other mobility challenges. If you have any other access requirements please contact us and we will make adjustments as best we can.
